I might have mentioned this before, but I am not a college sports fan. It’s not that I dislike it in any manner, I’m just not a fan. I don’t follow college football probably because my alma mater sucks at it. I fill out a bracket for March Madness every year but have no idea what I’m doing. So Satrudays don’t hold a special place in my heart like they do for most males in this country. However, the one advantage of that is when the NFL Playoffs start. Then, I get what are essentially bonus games on a day I normally don’t get football. And they’re going to be pretty good games since, hey, it’s the playoffs. I know none of us were/are math majors, but I think we can all agree on this:

Woo! There it is, boys, your 2008 NFL season. It’s always so sad to see it go, but like the end of a relationship, football let us get our rocks off one last time before it left town. What a weekend of games! CBS and Fox get some props from me (after I derided them last week) for getting all the best games on my TV for me. In the morning it was Vikings/Giants (I would have preferred Bears/Texans over Pats/Bills, but that’s just me) and then in the afternoon it was switching back and forth between Miami/NYJets and Dallas/Philly (until it turned into a blow out). So I just wanted to take this time to thank the NFL for all it has given to us this year. We can totally still be friends. (more…)

That wonderful time of year when we spend our money on things for other people. More importantly, we GET things from other people as well. Nothing matches the excitement of seeing that shiny box with your name on it and wondering at the limitless possibilities of what it could be. Gold? Giftcard? Jetpack?! And sadly, nothing matches that disappoint of learning that your mom has, once again, got you an extra large shirt that says something like “Bad to the BONE” and has a picture of a dog flexing his bicep. Then you get to wait in line at Target for an hour just to be told that you don’t have the receipt so you can only get store credit. So you pick out something that isn’t atrocious (usually baseball cards for me) and wait in line for another hour at the checkstand.

Well, we’re not alone in this plight. Many a professional sports franchise has gotten a gift (usually for themselves) that they wish they could take back, and we’ve made a list of some of the worst presents ever. Enjoy! (more…)

I have a bit of a confession to make: I turned off the Giants-Panthers game at the half last night. I know, I know, how can I write a blog about the NFL after I turned off one of the best games of the season, a game that I was very into?! I have no excuse. I was watching the game while drinking and wrapping presents when my girl started getting fidgety and wanted to watch Season 2 of Dexter. I fought a little bit, but we all know how those fights end: “Yes, dear.”

Later that night, while watching Sportscenter, I saw that the game went to OT. I immediately hung my head and shame and knew I would have to face the music on here today. So go ahead, let it rip… (more…)
