Wait, am I…am I rooting for the Yankees?!
What’s happened here? Everything’s gone topsy turvy!
Now, I’m a local homer. Doyers first, Angels second. But both of them were eliminated in the LCS. So who am I left to root for? The umpires? Eff them, they suck this year.
But as I sat in front of the TV last night, drink in hand (the way God intended sports to be ingested; mixed with cheap rum) I found myself pulling for the boys in Pinstripes. But how did I get here? I feel like Charleton Heston who just woke up on some strange planet where things just don’t make sense. Damn dirty apes…

But after a lot of soul searching (on a beach…in a loincloth…with a horse) I think I’ve narrowed it down to a few key reasons:
1. Cool kids syndrome - the general populous hates the Yankees. Ergo, the majority of baseball fans are rooting for them to lose. Not necessarily a Phillies victory, but a Yankee loss. Well, everyone knows that the cool kids in life just survey the field, see what the popular opinion is, then choose the exact opposite side. Maybe that’s it. Maybe I’m just trying to seem cool by being contradictory. Wouldn’t be the first time, and probably won’t be the last.
2. A-Rod - I’m for sure tired of all the ‘A-Rod is a choke artist and can’t play in the postseason’ talk. It’s too easy, and inaccurate. The truth is, he’s just had two bad postseasons with the Yankees. But you know what? So did the entire team. That’s why they couldn’t get out of the first round both years. If you look at A-Rod’s entire postseason career (including his years with the Mariners and Rangers) you’ll see that he actually hits very well in the postseason. Note: I am too lazy to look it up right now, but trust me, it’s true.
3. That CC Sabathia seems like a jolly fellow - You know who I bet’s not a nice guy? Chase Utley. Maybe he just hits a little too much like Jeff Kent, but something about him makes me not trust him.
4. Eff Boston - You heard me. Eff ‘em.
So there they are, the best reasons I can figure for me pulling for the Yankees. I will continue to root for them, silently to myself so as not to look like a front running a-hole (read: any Yankee fan not originally from New York). I guess sometimes, you just have to make do with the curveballs life throws you. Just like Charles…

Note: life curveballs apparently much easier to hit than Cliff Lee curveballs.
