Thanks NFL Network…
I got to spend the holiday weekend at my dad’s. While I don’t particularly care for his Dish Network, it does have NFL Network which my Time Warner still doesn’t carry.
I sat and watched the greater part of the Cowboys final game of the 1993 regular season against the Giants. The winner would take the NFC East crown. In the second quarter, Emmitt Smith fell awkwardly on his shoulder and suffered a third degree separation but continued to play, racking up 168 rushing yards and added 61 yards receiving as the Cowboys went on to win in OT 16-13.

Other than being reminded that Emmitt was a hoss I made a couple of other observations.

John Madden was useful as a color commentator at one time
Color me shocked…get it. Madden has become a joke. But there was a time, that I had forgotten about, when Madden could break down a play without resorting to stating the obvious or becoming a caricature of himself…it was actually refreshing.

I miss Pat Summerall in the booth
I’m not sure I can think of anyone I’d rather hear call an NFL game. If there is a better play-by-play man, I can’t think of one.

I need that yellow line
It’s difficult to watch football without that first down line. It wasn’t always that way. I used to be able to pay enough attention to know where a first down would be..but not now. I have to have that superimposed line.

Aikman should always rock the mullet
He was bold enough to do it as a Super Bowl champ, might as well go business in the front, party in the back as he stands next to his bromance Joe Buck in the Fox booth. Actually, if he would go mullet and stop coordinating his outfit with his partner, It would still be an improvement.

When I separated my shoulder, one of the specialists mention I had the same injury (3rd degree) as Emmitt Smith in this game. I had trouble lacing up shoes, much less carrying a football. So much respect for what he did.
To be fair, he probably did have better drugs.
