NFL Challenge Results: Fanyard v. Pyle of List (Week 4)
It’s very obvious Blake from Fanyard is better at this than I am. We knew that coming in. At this point, I have two goals: 1) To win a week and 2) To hit a game exactly. While I’m learning, it’ll get worse before it gets better.
Winners are italicized.
BB: Vikings by 6 over Packers: I know, I know. Call me crazy, but there just has to be an upset or three each week. And wouldn’t it be cool for Favre to tie the INT record this week. Then next week, we could watch in awe as Brett breaks both records on the same day. Infamy, here comes your day!!
JP: Packers by 4 over Vikings: You win, Brett. I won’t doubt your supremacy ever again. I still don’t quite understand how this Packers team is winning, but they’re beginning to remind me of a “Major League” style NFL team. Their next order of business: trade Aaron Rogers for Rex Grossman,:the young, inaccurate and wild backup for the grizzled vet. Then everyone will be happy.
BB: Cowboys by 17 over Rams: Mmmm…I like lamb. So do Cowboys. No Jackson = No chance. Mint sauce, anyone?
JP: Cowboys by 20 over Rams: This week I’m taking my gut and going the opposite way for most games. I was thinking close game which should mean ‘Boys blowout.
BB: Ravens by 6 over Browns: Only the Ravens could come into this game with such a great defense feeling the need to prove it can pay for a whole game, and still only beat the Browns by two field goals. They remind me of the ‘98-’99 Bucs.
JP: Ravens by 3 over Browns: You know who the Ravens remind me of? Steve McNair. He is an absolute microcosm for that team: always injured, often plays poorly but somehow always a contender. I think this is a down week. But, there is something about this Browns team I thoroughly enjoy. Not watching of course, their existence amuses me I guess.
BB: Dolphins by 8 over Raiders: Will Culpepper show the Dolphins what a mistake they made by giving up on him? Would it even be noticed amongst the pile of mistakes both these teams have made in recent years? Does anyone outside the Miami and Oakland metros care?
JP: Raiders by 6 over Dolphins: Can Culpepper really be that upset about the Dolphins thing? He was only there for a year and hadn’t fully recovered from an injury. I think the Raiders are half-way decent though.
BB: Jets by 13 over Bills: Why thirteen? Because in North America, thirteen is an unlucky number. And - for the Bills this season - if it wasn’t for bad luck, they’d have no luck at all. (Quick: 80s glam-metal reference?)
JP: Bills by 1 over the Jets: Eventually the Bills will win. Why not now?
BB: Falcons by 7 over Texans: I only say this because I really, truly want to go into a Joey Harrington diatribe, but he has to prove me wrong just often enough so that teams keep giving him more chances. Plus, the Texans might be a touch overconfident.
JP: Texans by 2 over Falcons: Normally I would pick the Falcons here and my good friend Joe Harrington, but they really aren’t very good.
BB: Lions by 6 over Bears: Prove me wrong, you Griese bastard. I dare you.
JP: Why haven’t the Bears just started Devin Hester at QB? Could it be any worse? At least he could theoretically be a running threat.
BB: 49ers by 2 over Seahawks: Much of this pick has to do with love and hate. I’d love it if the Niners could win. If any team is there for the express purpose of helping the 49ers come together as a unit, the Seahawks are that team.
JP: 49ers by 8 over Seahawks: I’m feeling a monster day by Frank Gore so Alex Smith doesn’t have to throw very much. I have no feeling whatsoever about Seattle.
BB: Bucs by 6 over Panthers: Galloway and Garcia should get monogrammed shirts - they fit so well together. Mind you, I’ve hated Galloway ever since he held out on Seattle. See, I used to not mind Seattle, but that was…long story. Oh, and David Carr might play…that would help Tampa-2.
JP: Bucs by 4 over Panthers: Seems to make sense. I misread Blake’s comments above and thought it said Garcia and Galloway should get mammogrammed together. That’d be funny.
BB: Chargers by 5 over Chiefs: Battle of the worst coaches. Best team wins…by default.
JP: Chargers by 9 over Chiefs: What do you think Marty’s doing right now? I wish they’d have a MartyCam for every Chargers game. My guess, hanging around in his underwear laughing maniacally at every mistake. If this slide continues for the Chargers, how is Norv not the worst football coach ever. It can’t be that hard when you have a roster that talented.
BB: Colts by 8 over Broncos: As much as I would like to think the Broncos will extend their trend of beating defending Super Bowl champs, which stands now at four consecutive games, I just don’t.
JP: Colts by 7 over Broncos: How much of a difference do these Bronco corners really make? Didn’t really change things last year, eh?
BB: Cardinals by 10 over Steelers: Because I am a paying rider on the Big Ben hate bus, that’s why. And I’ll have bragging rights for the next 4 months.
JP: Steelers by 5 over Cardinals: I’m not buying this old coach knows everything about the team stuff. Everyone knows what the Steelers are going to do on offense, so I don’t think it’s a well-hidden secret. Any chance Kurt Warner keeps up the great performance? Pittsburgh is going to be Blitz-burgh again this Sunday.
BB: Giants by 2 over Eagles: I have to take the G-men because I want Philly to win, and whatever I predict the Giants will do, they do just the opposite. Go Eli, go. And take Shockey with you…
JP: Eagles by 4 over Giants: I buried them last week, so you can call their performance last week the Lazarus game. I don’t see the Giants anyone.
BB: Patriots by 18 over Bengals: I think I’ll be kicking myself for not taking the Pats by 28 after this game. No, really.
JP: Bengals by 3 over Patriots: Why the hell not? There is not one good reason that the Bengals should win, which is why I’ll pick them. I think Marvin gets one good week out of his D and Belicheck,Tom Brady & Randy Moss sprain their wrists jerking each other off.
