A Guide To Recognizing Your Bloggers: Sooze, Babes Love Baseball
With the baseball playoffs starting today, who doesn’t want more of the lovely founders from Babes Love Baseball?
The first interview is more of a force of nature than a person. Only one word that shall ring throughout the the hallowed ground of Minnesota and the entire Midwest, reaching both coasts and the entire world. The wind calls SOOOOOOOOOOOOZZZZE!
Prepare a customized list that you’d like to share with the world.
Things I love in no particular order:
baseball
Bill Murray
snow
tattoos
writing
breaking the law
reubans
cigarettes and coffee
LPs
Propose a fight for Fracas Friday.
I’ve been waiting for this day all of my life: Sooze vs. C.C. Sabathia. Of course, I wouldn’t stand a chance against Captain Cheeseburger, but I’d love to punch him in the face sometime… and possibly kick him in the balls.
3 best games you’ve ever watched (in person or on TV).
On tv:
Game 6 of the 1991 World Series
Super Bowl XXXII
In person:
Francisco Liriano’s 2005 big league debut against The Gambler at the Dome. Awesome.
What 4 celebrities or athletes do you want in your posse? Whose posse would you like to be in?
Currently, the four members of my posse are:
Bill Murray
the Beastie Boys (is that cheating?)
Joe Mauer (homer alert!)
Gilbert Arenas
I think it would be super badass to roll with Davey Jones’ posse.
What teams do you follow? Sports?
I LOVE the Twins, Timberwolves, Wild and Gophers, but am a die-hard cheesehead.
What is your greatest athletic achievement? The worst folly?
One time, I struck out 13 batters — 9 in a row. Sadly, in all my years playing basketball, I had only one buzzer-beater… in fifth grade.
The worst moment was getting bitten in the shin by a scary, 200-pound Amazon center during a jump ball in high school. I totally kicked that girls’ ass later in my imagination.
I’m auditioning this one as a potential staple question: how was high school for you? Please feel free to elaborate.
High school was high. (Go Rockets!) I got good grades, played basketball, hockey and softball and made lots of life-long friends. I wouldn’t do it again if my life depended on it.
Tell us something about yourself that nobody in blogfrica knows.
I can walk on my hands and juggle, but not at the same time.
Why do you blog? What got you started?
I blog because no one listens to me ramble anymore. It’s funny, writers don’t talk like they write. I sound like a Norwegian with Downs Syndrome sometimes, so it’s just easier to get my thoughts out in a typed word format. Plus, it’s fun.
BLB started as a Twins blog on Myspace that roughly 1 person who is related to me felt obligated to read. A little over a year ago, I met Lizzy on Deadspin and it was love at first snark. We joined forces in February and added the amazing Sarah of Strikezones and Endzones recently, along with the equally awesome Melissa of Ladies… and Center Field.
What do you want your blog to be known for? What do you personally want to be known for?
This question is kinda hard. I guess I would just like BLB to be recognized for its great content and writers.
I’d like to be known for my uncanny ability to silence a room full of people.
What post is your personal favorite? Which is the most popular?
I actually had to do some research for this one…turns out that aside from all of our Under the Bleachers posts, Lizzy’s rant on the Rocket’s return to the majors is the most popular one. I’m not sure if I have a personal favorite… maybe Brad Radke’s retirement post. Sad times.
Do you want to do this for a living?
Meh, that would make it work, and work is no fun.
Thoughts on the present and the future for the blogosphere. How does it fit with the mainstream media?
The blogosphere is pretty cool, lots of great stuff to read. I think it has some of what the media is missing — heart. The two mediums complement each other and have their places.
Any suggestions for a future interview?
Michael Rand from RandBall. A great man, an even greater writer and snappy dresser.
Switching gears, how do you and Lizzy know each other?
We met on match.com. I mean deadspin.
Is your relationship strictly through chats and emails or do you fnd the time to hang out?
I wish we could hang out! I know that Sarah and Lizzy have gone out before, but I’m stranded in flyover country, far far away from the rest of the ladies.
Where did the idea of Babes Love Baseball come from?
From my boredom and need to write about baseball.
Walk us through your creative process. How do you determine who posts and the content?
I usually get fired up about something, then think, “I have to put this on BLB.” We all just write about whatever we want.
You’ve recently added the highly regarded SportsGirl365 to the mix. How did that acquisition come about?
Sarah and I were writing at Epic Carnival together and I really liked her work. I mentioned to Lizzy that she lived in NY as well, they went and hung out, and we invited her to join. Then, we decided it would be awesome to invite Melissa from Ladies… and Center Field. I think we’re done adding excellence for now.
Do either of you have an outlet for your opinions on other sports?
I used to have a Timberwolves blog, but it was totally unhealthy - it sent me spiraling into a deep depression.
How did the word “mamms” work its way into your respective vernaculars?
Mammary glands = Mammaries = mamms. I have no idea.
Give me your World Series predictions, if you’re so inclined.
Twins and Braves. Just kidding, I would really like to see the Phillies get there and it would be nice to see the Angels in there as well.
Red Sox-Yankees. How does that end this season?
Hopefully with a giant implosion.

Well, Jon, I’ll bet you’re kicking yourself for not getting to this one sooner. I laughed me tuckus off.
Sooze is right about people not writing like they talk. I am every bit as pedantic in real life as I am in blog form, but I say fuck a lot more.
Some day, I will find an excuse to come to Minnesota, and then it’s on like Jung Bong (the fishing and drinking, I mean - we’re both married people).

Argh, that’s what I get for not thinking of interviewing Sooze first. But it wouldn’t have been as fun an interview as this one
good work.
