Shallow Thoughts on Casual Friday vol. VII

Last night the girlfriend and I were at Dodger Stadium for Russell Martin bobble head night. The first 50,000 people to the game last night got a free bobble head likeness of the best hitting catcher in the NL. In addition, it was one more chance for me to get to see Barry Bonds tie the home run record. Bonds did not oblige and ended up with one single in two at-bats and was walked twice, once intentionally. Barry Zito was pitching against ex-Giant Brett Tomko. As a Giants fan, I can honestly tell you that not only are we glad to have Tomko off our team, we’re also very excited to have him pitching for one of our division rivals. Dodger fans hate him too and they let him know so throughout his five innings with jeers of “YOU SUCK TOMKO!!!” and “TOMKO, QUIT BEING A LITTLE BITCH!!!” Things like that.

There was the obligatory annoying fan last night played by some guy in a tight turquoise shirt wearing one of those stupid blue and white Dodger fuzzy-afro-hat things (I thought only 8-year olds wore them). He was just your run of the mill douche for the most part: standing up to talk to people behind him for what seemed like half the game; cursing at people who wouldn’t do the wave in the putrid 9th inning; did I mention the ass-hat?; and he changed his probably half a dozen times. Just pick one and stick with it dude.

Anyway, the Dodgers lost the game 4-2 after leaving 28!!! men on base. The Giants left 16 on base themselves, but I guess they won the crown for being the less-struggling offense last night. So in summary, that’s a YAY! for the Giants’ victory and the bobble head and a BOO! ass-hats and for not witnessing history.

Here’s a few worthy links while I’m at it this fine Friday afternoon:

Are the Cubs the New Evil Empire? That is the question asked over at I’m Writing Sports. I don’t necessarily blame the Cubs for spending money though. I blame the players union for not allowing a salary cap.

The KSK guys are excited about Shark Week. I think you should be too. If you like it when sharks eat shit, click this link.

I just got this kickass excel spreadsheet with all the college football games for 2007 broken down by conference. Click on the following link if that sounds like something you might be interested in. It’s really a must have for any college football fan. 2007 College Football Schedule

If you have ever caught yourself sitting on your couch (or bean bag or La-Z-Boy or whatever) wondering who was the better wrestler, AC Slater from Saved by the Bell or Andrew Clark from The Breakfast Club, Epic Carnival has your answer.

Sports Girl gives it to Michael Strahan regarding his training camp holdout.

Lastly, this skateboarder at X games falls from about 50 feet in the air and walks away. HOLY SHIT!
