A Guide to Recognizing Your Bloggers: The Big Picture
We have a shocking secret here at Pyle of List… we aren’t the first bloggers to do interviews! Now that I’ve shaken your faith in humanity, I want to introduce you to one of the best interviewers in blogfrica: Zach from The Big Picture. His interviews pre-date ours and he’s pulled in some huge names. In fact, his interview roster reads like a who’s who of The Founding Fathers of Blog. Well, we turned the tables on The Big Picture and secured an interview with him. Enjoy!
Prepare a customized list that you’d like to share with the world.
Favorite movies:
Usual Suspects
Wet Hot American Summer
Pulp Fiction
Clerks
American History X
Clockwork Orgy
Forest Hump
3 best games you’ve ever watched (in person or on TV).
In person:
1. UW basketball, an up-and-coming team at the time, beat then unbeaten and No. 1 Stanford 75-62 in March, 2004. It was the first truly big sign that good things were on the way for Husky hoops. The excitement in the building that day was unbelievable.
2. 49ers beat Green Bay 30-27 in a Wild Card Playoff game in the 1997 season when Young found Owens for the game-winning TD, a play now dubbed The Catch II.
TV:
2007 Fiesta Bowl. That shit Boise State pulled was unbelievable. I had just flown in to Seattle and I arrived at my apartment and flipped on the TV with about two minutes left in regulation; just as things were getting good.
By the end, I was jumping up and down over a game and team I didn’t really care about. The game had trickery, a fantastic finish, the upset factor… I can’t think of a better game I’ve ever seen.
What 4 celebrities or athletes do you want in your posse? Who’s posse would you like to be in?
Pacman Jones
Michael Vick
Chris Henry
Ray Lewis
Being in Stephen Jackson’s posse would be really cool. Or Ron Artest’s.
What teams do you follow? Sports?
SF Giants, University of Washington football and basketball, SF Niners. My favorite sports to watch/follow are college football and basketball. Any day I can watch sports from 9-9 is awesome!
What is your greatest athletic achievement?
Being an All-American football, basketball, soccer, baseball, badminton, tennis, and volleyball player at UW.
I also was fucking great at Flag Football when I was in seventh grade. I tore up the league.
Why do you blog?
At first is was to keep my writing fresh between columns at the UW paper. It then became a place where I could say fuck, cocksmoker and bukkake without having to worry about an editor castrating me.
It’s now become one of the few things I’ve ever started from the ground up. It’s not only an outlet where I can write freely, but it’s become a forum where I can talk about sports the way I want to — by being goofy, unprofessional and snarky.
What do you want your blog to be known for? What do you personally want to be known for?
I want The Big Picture to be known for having a distinguishable tone/voice and being a place where people can laugh out loud at sports stories that aren’t usually written in a humorous tone.
I want to be known for putting Ron Jeremy to shame.
Do you want to do this for a living?
I happily would. But my office would be a strip club and my employees Dallas Cowboy cheerleaders.
Any suggestions for a future interview?
NFL Adam from The Hater Nation .
What is your process for conducting an interview?
First I have an internal struggle of whom I’d like to interview. Once that’s decided, I pull up an email address and fire one off asking if they’d take the time for a Q&A.
Pretty much everyone I’ve contacted as part of Blogger Interviews has been down. I then send the questions, receive the answers and then post.
Aside from reading the answers to questions that I’m really curious about, the best part is the other emails that inevitably happen. Learning about these guys outside the blogosphere has been really exciting.
How did you get connected with some of the big names you’ve interviewed?
Covered it above, but pretty much just scour a certain blog for an email address and then shoot one out. I’ve never met another blogger in person, so I can’t say I really know any of these guys. But I have talked with a few on the phone and some I’d consider friends.

Wait… whoa, whoa, WHOA! You’re saying that two different bloggers can have similar ideas? You just blew my mind.
Another fine interview, my friend.

But what readers really want to know is … how does Zach decide who makes “Would you do …” Friday?
Great interview guys.

Nice interview, The Big Pic is definitely one of my favorite blogs around, as evidenced by the many times I laughed out loud reading through Zach’s answers.
